I (Christeen Thornton) had written this in response to a person with whom I was having a debate. I feel that it is very pertinent particularly in this day and age of media fear mongering and communication gatekeeping. Please note that I have changed the person's name, to protect their dignity and whathaveyou.

"I can see that you've done your research George, and that's really good. What you ought to do however, is try to find things which will falsify the evidence brought forth (that the vaccine is "safe" and has been tested against FDA standards). One can generally assume that if there is nothing scholarly to falsify something (particularly within medicine), than it SHOULD be safe. The key word there being safe.

Anyways, all that stuff aside I can see that I ought to explain more in detail what I was saying above.
The vaccine contains a chemical preservative called Thimerosal which is almost 1/2 mercury.

"Thimerosal is a mercury-containing organic compound (an organomercurial). Since the 1930s, it has been widely used as a preservative in a number of biological and drug products, including many vaccines, to help prevent potentially life threatening contamination with harmful microbes. Over the past several years, because of an increasing awareness of the theoretical potential for neurotoxicity of even low levels of organomercurials and because of the increased number of thimerosal containing vaccines that had been added to the infant immunization schedule, concerns about the use of thimerosal in vaccines and other products have been raised. Indeed, because of these concerns, the Food and Drug Administration has worked with, and continues to work with, vaccine manufacturers to reduce or eliminate thimerosal from vaccines."

Mercury also happens to be a known factor in the development of childhood autism and asperger's. Please note that all other vaccines were thimerosal-free as of 2001.

Now, speaking as a mother and one familiar with the medical industry I feel that it is irresponsible of the medical health officer to not be offering up this information. It is however, not altogether entirely surprising due to our living in a capitalist society. But that is another ball of yarn altogether.

It is also particularly surprising that they are recommending that pregnant women and infants receive this vaccine. It's common knowledge that pregnant women shouldn't eat fish due to possible mercury exposure. But then why are they being told to take a shot that definitively contains mercury, which can cause brain damage to their unborn child? People need to be taking precautions other than this dangerous vaccine like frequent hand washing and staying home when ill etc.
The World Health Organization has been quoted at around '16 000 deaths annually due to the regular run-of-the-mill influenza'. George, you said that you would rather be safe than sorry. I understand that, but when you have data in front of you, stating that the H1N1 vaccine is dangerous there is no choice. I cannot begin to understand why our government has decided to use its citizens as guinea pigs, but I know that I, and my son, will not become a statistic."
