A traditional Chinese medication that cures Swine (H1N1) flu within three days, was launched in China on Tuesday, a local Newspaper reported.

The makers of  "No 2 Cold Medicine" say that the medicine is especially effective for children, and does not harm the stomach like Western flu treatments.

According to a report from RIA Novosti, The China daily quoted Tu Zhitao, head of the medical bureau in Beijing, stating that children with H1N1should be cured within three days;

"Some children will be cured with only one dose, while others might need two," he said.

So far the drugs Tamiflu and Relenza are the only two approved for treatment of the H1N1 influenza virus, and the World Health Organization (WHO) declined to comment on the Chinese medicine, saying only that it was "not familiar" with the traditional remedy.

The paper also quoted an unnamed bureau official stating that the medicine was much less harmful than western anti-viral drugs, and lacking its side-effects;

"Chinese medicine does not have this side effect. This No 2 cold medicine is an upgrade of former anti-flu medicines," she said.

Nearly 50,000 H1N1 cases have so far been confirmed in China resulting in 7 deaths.
